Low Cost Hotels in Hong Kong ➤ Best Prices Guaranteed!

One of the crown jewels of Great Britain’s former colonial empire, densely populated Hong Kong embraces a mix of the old and new worlds, the ultra-urban and the serenely rural. Hong Kong is one of the world’s most prominent international finance centers, yet its soaring skyscrapers abut colorful street markets and wooden junks moor alongside high-speed ferries and cruise ships. Visitors peruse the exotic at traditional herb shops, take tea and dim sum in the Central District, enjoy the spectacle of Chinese opera, shop at one of several mega-malls, and ferry to Lamma Island or Lantau Island for hiking, beach-lounging and exploring remote fishing villages.
Looking down onto the cityscape of Hong Kong Island from the peaks that surround it has been likened to gazing into the heart of a volcano. It's indeed a city that is ever-percolating and super-heated - producing a constant flow of money. Dominated by a jumble of spectacular skyscrapers, and an always active deepwater port, the island part of this mega-city is a world capital of business and trade. The tight streets are packed with people and commerce, though one of the best-known and most-frequented neighborhoods is actually water-borne. Aberdeen is home to thousands of junks and sampans used for businesses and residences. Tourists flock there to sample Hong Kong's famed cuisine on one of many floating restaurants. There's evidence the island had farmers and fishermen here 6,000 years ago, but the area really started to develop 150 years ago when Hong Kong became a British territory. Though English is now the language of business here, the island is Chinese to the core and should be more so as mainland China takes over its rule.
