“Incredibly friendly and welcoming owners - more like staying in someone's (beautifully restored and luxurious) home than a hotel! Our small baby was made a fuss of and we enjoyed delicious local Chinese food in the restaurant and cocktails in the cosy bar. If you do have a baby or small child, I highly recommend their suite which lets you pop baby to bed in the bedroom and hang out in the lounge area with a few beers. Perfect!”
“The owner’s, Ed and Selina, are so hospitable and fun! They’ve done an amazing job at renovating the mansion. The rooms are well-designed and the beds are very comfortable. The food is also fantastic! We traveled with 2 families with children, young to teenagers. Everyone loved the food. And, Ed & Selina helped us with all of our activities. We hiked beautiful Sanqingshan. Definitely worth the visit! And spent our last morning painting paper umbrellas at the local umbrella ‘factory’. Such a great trip. We felt totally transported from our crazy life in Shanghai! Thanks to Ed & Selina!”
“Fantastic, unique renovated mansion - this is really one of a kind. Character, comfort, good local food and drink and warm and helpful hosts, who speak English. We spent a rainy day sitting in the cozy rooftop space overlooking ancient tiled roofs to the hills beyond, and several mornings cycling along small roads, through villages, rice paddies and tea plantations. Just go!”
“I was wonderfully looked after in this beautiful new accommodation in Wuyuan. The owners have lovingly restored a 300-year-old mansion to give an authentic taste of ancient China while providing enough modern facilities to make it super comfy! And the beautiful surrounding countryside more than lives up to its reputation. A fantastic base to explore a number of ancient villages.”
“Fabulous warm welcome from the hands-on owners. Nothing was too much trouble and they made our stay very memorable. The hotel was a very special building and its clear that a lot of love and attention has gone into the renovation.”
“I really enjoyed my two nights stay at Wuyuan Skywells. The house is beautifully and restored to perfection. I enjoyed the remoteness of the village and getting out into the countryside.”
“A wonderful ancient chinese house, sensitively restored by the owners. It is comfortable and modern where it needs to be but you can still feel Old China. It has ground floor rooms if you need them but from the third floor there are wonderful views over the village and surrounding countryside. It has a well stocked bar with luxuries rarely found in the chinese countryside, chilled white wine and gin and tonic.Look out for the Manx flag on the main beam. A truly delightful place to stay.”
“The hotel building is a fantastic, tasteful renovation of a historic traditional Chinese mansion. It has a wonderful blurring of inside and outside spaces and the glass walled penthouse room gives amazing views of the countryside - we loved sitting up here with a glass of chilled white wine! Also the owners gave us a really great tour of the property explaining the detail of the restoration work they've undertaken. The owners are from a cosmopolitan background ( ask Edward to make you a cocktail!) and have fluent English. They were really helpful with things like sorting out taxis to pick us up from the station and providing recommendations for our onward trip.”
