“Stayed a week, almost, to participate in an academic conference at NCKU. Most days I was able to monopolize the hotel's only working bicycle, which was a nominal freebie. My first recent experience, really, in staying at a dormitory hotel, which was inexpensive and OK, by and large. Now up in Taipei, I see that's how that's what most low end back-packers, and even some geezers like myself, do for lodgings here. Staff was friendly, English-speaking to greater or lesser degree, and exceedingly helpful at every turn. Location in West Central not at all close to many restaurants (first-rate street food, Bangkok-style, doesn't much exist in Taiwan), but not far by bicycle from interesting parks, old fort, fishing port, and Taiwan Strait coastline/waterfront.”

“Good location. Under 20 mins walk to the main train station. OK mix of food available at the buffet breakfast. Tea/coffee and kettle in room. Bed was comfortable. Room was small and the bathroom even smaller but suitable for sightseeing as we didn't need to stay in the room for long periods of time. Easy to use as a base for sightseeing. A lot of the sights are within walking distance. Good cafes, restaurants and malls in close proximity.”
