“A great traditional Japanese experience in a region that is not heavily touristed with western tourists. Classy accomodation, super clean, helpful staff with great Onsen experience, and make sure you book a traditional evening meal for 1 night of your stay - its great and worth the money . Very near the snow monkeys for a day trip and is a great stopover on a circuit trip from Tokyo via Nagano, train to Yudanka - spent 2 nights Shibu Onsen. Then across highway 292 - the highest road in Japan - by local bus ( to see Mt Shirane crater lake - luggage storage available at the restaurant) , thence to Kusatsu overnight and then bus and train back to Tokyo . Would have loved some extra time in this part of Japan to futher explore the Shiga Kogen region . PS check the bus timetables carefully - reduced services after 30 October.”
“The place was beautiful and had a lot of ornate decorations throughout the halls. The people who worked there were very fun to talk too and very kind. All in all a great decision!”
“The staff were so accommodating and the rooftop Onsen was so luxurious and relaxing. A wonderful stay.”
“The surrounding area was really nice, with 9 public onsen exept the onsen at the ryokan. There was also the snow monkey mountain within walking distance and a really nice place to stay at for some days to relax. The dinner and breakfast at the ryokan was really good! Highly recommend eating there!”
“Central in shibu onsen and lovely food. Private bathroom also.”
“Authentic Ryokan. Don't wait anymore and go there for 9 free small onsens plus indoor and outdoor hotel onsen. First evening Kaiseki dinner festive and amazing. Good to walk around with your children to see snow monkeys, to see rural houses. Good for 2 nights.”
“Staff were very friendly and helpful Meals were beautifully presented”
“Totally authentic experience. Delightful staff. Helpful, accomodating and a pleasure to meet.”
“This is a lovely ryokan. Food was out of this world-gorgeously presented and delicious. Probably the best we had in Japan. The onsen ( in and outside) were also lovely. The first night our room was a bit small but they moved us the next night to a larger room that was very comfortable. Staff really attended to you and were very helpful. Town is fun to walk around in and was easy to get to the Monkey Park to see the snow monkeys - a must do! The countryside and area are beautiful. A lovely ryokan experience.”
“Kaiseki dinner was fantastic. Breakfast great too! Access to 9 Onsens walking in snow wooden slippers in Japanese dress - classic!”
