“The ambience and views from this location are fantastic, because the hotel is a curious assemblage of refurbished "sassi" housing blocks and terraces, interconnected by a maze of narrow alleys and stairs, sitting on a steep hill over the sassi "downtown". Focaccia-heavy breakfast was interesting (but not for everyone's taste I suppose).”
“Best view in Matera, in the Sassi Barisano, looking at the Duomo. Various kinds of rooms (caves, separate apartments, more normal rooms), so make sure you get the kind you want. Good restaurants nearby, parking about 15 mins walk away for €11 per day. Beware that you have to walk up and down a lot in Matera - not for you if you are not very mobile. Excellent breakfast (with pizza!) as well.”
“The evening and early morning views from our room were superb. A large suite with comfortable furnishings. A short walk to the main piazza. A very helpful employee helped me with finding the parking station and then finding my way back to the hotel...the walking paths are quite a labyrinth.”
“The hotel is literally carved up in the mountain and outer walls are built to cover the caves. Our room had funny access to toilet - like a tunnel in the rock at the end of which you finish in a bathroom. And the view to the whole oldtown part of Matera was worth a million. Especially by night when all the town is lit up and it looks just like a postcard. And the fact that it's in a cave it's totally sound proof. Breakfast was better than anywhere else we stayed this time, with variety of focaccias being served besides the sweet typical breakfast options. And the breakfast is served in a nice cave restaurant to keep the atmosphere.”
