“It was an amazingly joyful and pleasant stay in the mountains: ・The Room (No.218) which we stayed in has a splendid panoramic view over the beautiful old town “Altomonte”. You can definitely awake to the sound of birds singing ・Every single staff we interacted with was simply great, very attentive and from the minute we walked in the door until our departure they made us feel welcome. ・Dinner was also excellent. We enjoyed antipasto Balbieri, Tortelli Nduja, Lagane Porcini and piatto buon riccordo- having tons of local flavour and outstanding freshness and an exquisite seasoning with salt, paired with delicious Calabrian wine (Gravello). ・That evening, there was a lively wedding reception with a magnificent display of fireworks going on in the hotel’s garden and there were lots of group customers in the restaurant. But these facts did not spoil our dinner at all. In all respects we can highly recommend this hotel.”

(We never looked at a dinner menu. They loved bringing the specialties of the area for us to try, which we thoroughly enjoyed!) The attention to detail and guest comfort was wonderful, and we would definitely recommend Barbieri to anyone visiting the area. It was an easy and enjoyable walk into the old city of Altomonte from the hotel and getting to the hotel without a car was no problem. They arranged a flawless transfer service for us from the Paola train station, which was really helpful. Hotel Barbieri has an intimate, family-run feel with all of the amenities and services of a larger hotel. We loved Altomonte, the beautiful views, the fresh air, and the Calabrese food, and will definitely be back! (With a better handle on our Italian!) :)”

“A lovely stay in a fabulous family run hotel. Lovely friendly helpful staff. Just opposite the old city of Altomonte (a 15 minute walk). Wonderful Calabrian kitchen at very reasonable prices. The rooms are comfortable clean and well equipped and I assume all have wonderful views from the balcony of the glorious countryside. It can handle a lot of guests, yet somehow preserves a distinctive warmth of welcome and service. I cannot recommend it too highly.”

Il posto è bellissimo, la vista del paese di Altomonte dall'hotel è un'ottima cornice. Straordinario il ristorante, si può vivere un'esperienza gastronomica di grande qualità. Siamo stati poco ma è bastato per un piacevole week end di relax.”
