“This hotel is worth going out of your way for! It is a perfect old-world-charm hotel, meticulously kept, and an easy, comfortable stay. The best value and comfort I have ever had in a true turn of the last century hotel. Go there, drive the extra 14 miles from The Dallas!”
“We enjoyed the beauty of the old hotel. We felt very relaxed there. The breakfast was very good.”
“Fantastic retreat into a calmer era. Highly recommended for a retreat from the big city and as a base for exploring the high desert.”
“Full of character...you can just imagine the stories this place could tell you. Peacefully placed in historic Dufur (population <700). Great views of Mt. Hood. ”
“The decor in the common areas, the grounds, the architecture of the hotel especially the exterior and interior common areas.”
“Absolutely charming heritage property and wonderful hosts who were very responsive to my queries and requests. I would have liked to have had a longer stay.”
“The historic hotel and especially the extensive beautiful grounds provided a special experience. Staff was great and so was the food. We already have plans to go there again next year when hopefully the sky is not heavy with smoke due to fires.”
“We're road tripping through Orgeon and wanted to see Maryhill Museum toward the end of our day. Nothing in the Dalles looked interesting so we booked the Balch for our place to stay before heading to Bend. It was an excellent choice. There is nothing to do or see in Balch except beautiful farmland and puffy clouds, at least that's what we found. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and loved that too. The hosts were extremely gracious. The rooms are small compared to today's standards but clean and cute. The building was built in 1907 so it was neat to think of everyone who stayed there before us. I would definitely stay here again.”
“Great historical location & premises. Superb view of Mt. Hood, great garden patio & friendly staff. Amazing place in such a small town.”
“Best Hotel in the Usa so far. Nice spirit. There was a music jam in the courtyard. Food was really good also. Had a room with view on mount hood. Magic”
