Along the lower Yellow River in east-central China, Henan Province is a cradle of Chinese civilization. Fifty miles southwest of Zhengzhou, at the foot of Mount Songhan, lies another Chinese cultural treasure, the Shaolin Temple and Monastery, where the martial art of kung-fu originated. Henan's rich farmlands also make it a leading producer of cotton, tobacco, tea, silk cocoons, and fruit.
