Rabat is Morocco's capital and home to the King of Morocco. It is an educated and diplomatic city, housing all of the countries major governmental offices and several universities and art schools.
Located across the Bou Regreg River from Rabat is the sister city of Sale' which is known for its industrial endeavours. Together the two citites have a population of over 2 million citizens. This city, almost more than any other in Morocco, shows a great amount of French influence, because of 40 years of French rule (1912 to 1956).
Rabat is considered the second largest city in the country of Morocco and is one of the countries four Imperial cities. As with most major Moroccan cities, Rabat is a great shopping center for textiles such as carpeting.
