“This place has a ton of character! Not only is it an older building, but there are lots of antiques, curios and collectibles of all sorts on display and all around, both inside and out. It feels like a museum you could actually stay in, explore and browse around in! Met "Lester", the owner of the hotel who is also the collector of all this amazing stuff, later that night. If he has time, he's happy showing and explaining some of his collection. I slept the night in a lovely canopied 4-poster wood antique bed. My bedroom also had an antique wardrobe and other antique furnishings as well as a separate smaller adjoining bedroom. The private ensuite bathroom featured a handpainted, porcelain toilet bowl with a high water tank and pull-chain. There was also a handpainted, porcelain corner sink with old antique faucets. You definitely get much added value renting a room here!”
“The easy going relaxed atmosphere and the owner took time to show us a few collectables and how they worked”
“This hotel is really special with very friendly and helpful hosts. The hotel itself needs to getting used to, but it's a bit like a time journey. But they have a fantastic massage chair in the communal living room - we used it a lot during our stay! :) I can definitely recommend it for one or two nights!”
“The staff were very friendly and the place had a fantastic atmosphere. Looking around the property is quite an experience with all manner of strange and interesting things collected in the Hotel. The beds were warm and the Main room had a very warm fire. We will be staying again.”
“The really unusual experience, felt like we were about to stay with the Adams family. (Surroundings) Would we stay there again? Yes. Really comfortable bed. Friendly staff”
“Staff were very friendly and helpful. The ambiance of the hotel is very special. The hotel is full with items from the past 150 years or so. There was a nice open fire place in the dining room. It had a bit of a family atmosphere.”
“Basic choices for dinner but fine for what we needed. Rooms were clean and tidy. A unique place to stay.”
“It was not just overnight stay, but true adventure and travel back in time! An exceptional opportunity to spend a night in the museum! Definitely number 1 of things to do in Arthur's pass! Although most of the people visit this wonderful place in the day time, you have to stay overnight to soak this authentic magical atmosphere and explore the craziest collection of old things you've ever seen!”
“An amazing antique hotel in the middle of mountains oozing character and the massage chair was an immediate success, I admire the people who run this hotel, they are doing a great job, certainly a highlight of our holiday”
“Historical hotel, it's a living museum. Each room reminds you of a bygone era.Must stay or atleast visit if passing through Otira. A little gem of an accommodation!”
