“This is possibly the best accommodation I have stayed in for business travel ever (and I travel quite a bit!) The house is an exquisite palace, like a small version of the Mount Nelson but better. I was warmly received and shown to my bedroom which looked like it was from an Agatha Christie book - beautiful bed, fresh flowers alongside the complimentary sherry decanter, bath salts for use in the slipper bath, lovely towels, gilded mouldings on the walls, simply superb. The full English breakfast on the covered veranda was excellent, sitting on white wicker chairs overlooking the garden with white orchids on the tables and Beethoven playing in the background. All of this for R883.58 - it was the steal of the year.”

“The magnificent entry gates take you into another world. The building itself would not look out of place in Tuscany.The gardens with the magical pool area take a day to explore. The resident ducks add to the calm.The furnishings are a fascinating collection of antiques and bric-a-brac from all continents and cultures. The suites are extremely comfortable and well set up. The staff match the setting. The front desk could not be more obliging and organised tours and transport for us. It is worth visiting Illyria just for the food.The menu is varied and well executed.The breakfasts are outstanding particularly if you manage to dine in the wine cellar. The wait staff are very polished.”
